Did you know that rewarding your daughter for her good grades can decrease her motivation to do well in school?
It´s natural to want to acknowledge a job well done but when you pay your daughter to do well in school, you actually undermine the message that doing well and continuing to learn are ends in and of themselves. Over time, your daughter will become dependent on rewards for her efforts and she may not "perform" without a reward dangling in front of her. Your praise can be just as effective, and is likely to be more meaningful than material rewards. In addition, asking your daughter how she feels about her successes (ex: good grades, improvements) will help her build a sense of personal pride and internal motivation that will help fuel her ongoing efforts and learning.
