Rock-N-Roll High
May 6, 2008
I love when we get down to the nitty gritty, at this point in the game one bad performance will kill you and well I think Jason Castro will be meeting with a firing squad on the results show. Since there's only four contestants left I'll break each one down for you.
I realized last night that I think that David Cook is the most "talented" and authentic, overall contestant that 'Idol' has ever had. Hear me out -- even on a bad week he does a GREAT job. And each week he gets better and he NEVER sells out. There have been some great all-around, versatile performers on 'Idol' in the past, but he's not THAT person, he knows his talent (and genre) and he sticks to it. That being said I thought this wasn't his best week. He wasn't bad (though his first performance was definitely only average), but it wasn't the David Cook that gave me goosebumps singing 'Billie Jean!' All I have to say is, rock on, this kid is IT!
I have to say that I think that Syesha Mercado is extremely talented. And I think what I love best about her is how she's managed to survive the bottom two/three week after week. It takes a certain type of person to bounce back from those situations and rather then let it get her down she came out blazing. Both songs were well done and I really hope this girl sticks around for at least one more week!
Jason, Jason, Jason ... where do I begin? I seriously am beginning to wonder if Jason Castro is taking the competition seriously anymore. Both of his performances were horrid! This late in the game you cannot come out with the kind of performances he had, and this isn't his first week of sub-par performances. I really think Simon put it best, "Jason, I'd pack your suitcase," although it was a bit harsh to say out loud and to his face.
I really feel like David Archuleta peaked when he sang 'Imagine' early on in the competition. I just wasn't feeling him last night and I have to wonder what kind of album would he put out? Put his cuteness aside and think about it, all he does is croon love songs. That only gets you so far, and especially with a targeted teen audience. He's incredibly talented, but I just find him incredibly boring. Sorry! But I still say he'll be in the finals and vocally he certainly deserves to be.
If you need a performance recap, here's who sang what in Round 1:
David Cook -- 'Hungry Like a Wolf' (Duran Duran)
Syesha Mercado -- 'Proud Mary' (Tina Turner)
Jason Castro -- 'I Shot the Sheriff' (Bob Marley)
David Archuleta -- 'Stand by Me' (Ben E. King)
And, here's who sang what in Round 2:
David Cook -- 'Baba O'Riley' (The Who)
Syesha Mercado -- 'A Change Is Gonna Come' (Sam Cooke)
Jason Castro -- 'Mr. Tambourine Man' (Bob Dylan)
David Archuleta -- 'Love Me Tender' (Elvis Presley)
All songs are had to be classics from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
We're getting down to the end, what do you think? Has your favorite changed? Who do you think should win? TELL ME! TELL ME!
Tuned in 24/7,
