INTERVIEW: Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato

Full Name: Demetria Devonne "Demi" Lovato

Date of Birth: August 20, 1992

Currently Live: Los Angeles, CA

Hometown: Dallas, TX

What else would you do if you weren't singing? "The only thing I could see myself doing is music – songwriting or producing or something. I've never seen myself being in any other business, I've been working in this one since I was 5 years old! I could do other things, but I wouldn't want to!"

What are your best and worst subjects in school? "I used to think my worst subject was English, but now it’s ironic because I write music. And I’ve been doing really well in it, and I’ve been proud. But my favorite subjects are like, math and algebra. For some reason it’s always been easy for me. I finished Algebra 2 over the course of Camp Rock, which was like a month and a half. So the entire year of Algebra 2, I finished in a month and a half!"

Anything about yourself you wish you could change? "I'm very uncoordinated. I'm surprised I don't fall onstage more."

Do you ever wish you could just be a normal kid? "No. I actually wish that I was 18, so I could vote and be considered an adult. It’s hard because everyone treats me like I’m an adult, so I might as well be one, you know? I don’t really have the same mind-set as kids my age, so I like to hang out with people who are older, except for Selena [Gomez] and Miley [Cyrus]. They’re the only friends I have that are my age. Right now, I kind of get judged if I like a guy who’s 18 or whatever. I’m supposed to be mature—so am I supposed to be with somebody who’s immature? It’s weird."

Who do you look up to? "I look up to Miley [Cyrus], to be honest ... It’s because she has the thickest skin of anyone I know, and sometimes I’ll just go to her, like I’ll text her crying that this sucks, or whatever. She’s been through so much, yet she’s still so positive and so happy! It’s awesome."

What would people be surprised to know about you? "Just because you're on the Disney Channel and you always have a smile on your face, they think you're perfect, and it's obvious that nobody's life really is."

What's the best part about growing up being an entertainer? "I'm getting to meet people who I've idolized since as far back as I can remember. People who I grew up listening to are people who I'm now writing music with. Before I met the Jonas Brothers I was totally a fan. I was one of those girls in the audience that goes to their shows and screams over them. Now here I am the same age as Nick working along side them. It's nice because I'm not just idolizing people who are a lot older than I am. It's cool to work with people who I respect as musicians who are my age."
