This Girl of the Moment wants to “Sock out Poverty” one step at a time!
Princess is a 13-year-old girl from Texas who loves basketball and collecting fun and colorful socks; and it’s this love of rainbow colored footwear that lead her to start her very own non-profit organization designed to, “Sock out Poverty!”
Princess’ organization was created three years ago while passing out blankets with her mother downtown. She noticed that while the new blankets would keep them warm, many of the homeless didn’t have any socks.
“Because Of my fondness of socks and seeing a need in the community, Sock Out Poverty was created,” she said. To date Princess has donated a whopping 7, 000 socks to those in need, including to those in Beaumont, San Antonio and Houston; while working with the Salvation Army Center, soup kitchens and on the streets.
And her organization doesn’t just end with socks, “I actually gave blankets along with new socks to 200 homeless people in my Christmas Eve Sock Drive. In the future I would like to give hats as well.”
After already traveling to four cities, Princess , “would love to have ‘Sock Out Poverty’ in each state helping to put an end to poverty one step at a time,” with a goal of going global and donating socks to people all over the world.
